A device that is used to provide fill light by reflecting illumination from the main lighting back onto the subject. Reflectors come in a variety of materials and colors designed to offer a variety of reflective behaviors. A colored background may operate as a reflector and can color the subject. A silver reflector will typically provide direct reflection and provide more light than a white ones which provide diffuse reflection. However, the placement of a white reflector is less critical and in some locations may provide more illumination on the subject than a silver card. Gold reflectors will reflect a warmer light onto the subject. Black reflectors are used to block reflected light from unwanted sources.
