Family of Angles

The set of angles at which reflected light will be directly received at a given distance from the subject. The family of angles may be precisely determined when working with directly reflective subjects. Studio photographers use this concept to determine the placement of lights. A light positioned within the family of angles is guaranteed to produce direct reflection. Placing the light outside of the family will not light the highly reflective subject subject at all.
